INAUGURATION OF THE EXHIBITION ‘BRONZE AND FIRE’ IN LOS ANGELES

(October 2013)

The opening of the exhibition “Bronze and Fire” at the exhibition space of the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles is only hours away.

The Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli, Firenze has enthusiastically accepted the invitation of the Italian Foreign Ministry via the good offices of Giuseppe Perrone, the Italian Consul General of Los Angeles, on the occasion of “The Year of Italian Culture in the United States”, to introduce the arts and techniques of Renaissance lost-wax casting.

More than twenty bronze masterpieces including Posthumous Cast Originals of works by Ghiberti and Giambologna, will remain on view through November 9. The Fonderia Marinelli will in addition exhibit, for the first time outside of Italy, a posthumous first edition original of the statue of St.Mathew by Lorenzo Ghiberti. It is the sculpture taken from the original work made for one of the niches of the Church of Orsanmichele in Florence. In 2006, the City of Florence and the Sopraintendenza ai Beni Culturale decided to move this masterpiece from its niche to a museum nearby. Fonderia Marinelli was entrusted with making the cast and a faithful posthumous first edition original. The mould will be utilized to make a limited number of posthumous first edition originals for our international clients and collectors.

A selection of works will be on show simultaneously at the Residence of the Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles.
